As an ethical manufacturer of natural skin and body care products, it is part of our mission to reduce our carbon footprint and make sustainable choices wherever we can. As well as working to make products which are packaged in recycled, recyclable or refillable plastic bottles, we do our best to use external packaging which is kind to the environment. With this in mind, instead of using standard polystyrene ‘peanuts’ to protect our products during transit, we use biodegradable loosefill from Eco Flo®.

Why not polystyrene?

Commonplace polystyrene packing products are made from non-sustainable petroleum, compressed into plastic, meaning that it degrades very slowly, is highly flammable and harms marine life. Expanded polystyrene is 98% air, floats on the surface of water, and is considered to be one of the main components of marine debris globally. The production of polystyrene products uses hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) which are known to negatively impact the ozone layer and contribute to climate change.

What is Eco Flo®?

Eco Flo® is an alternative packing material made from GM-free starch. Providing a great substitute to polystyrene packing products, EcoFlo is 100% biodegradable and independently proven to offer better all-round protection than other non-eco-friendly alternatives. With a superior technical and environmental performance, these peanuts are easy to dispose of, water soluble and compostable.

Manufacturing biodegradable materials uses 65% less energy than required to produced petroleum-based plastics and produces 68% less greenhouse gases, causing less damage to the environment. Try disposing of your Eco Flo® in your compost bin, or simply place the pieces in water and watch them dissolve!
