Perfume has been used in various forms for thousands of years. From the Egyptians who used scented oils to cover up bad body odours to modern society where it is a commonplace luxury. Perfume is very popular and used by many people as part of their daily regime, but artificial fragrances have caused a fair few problems in their time, to the extreme where perfumehas been banned in some places! In this article we have collected a list of some of the places where perfume is not permitted.
Detroit, USA
Three buildings in Detroit have banned the use of perfumes, cologne, aftershave, scented lotions and even scented deodorants by its workers after a lawsuit in which a woman was awarded $100,000. The woman filed the lawsuit after she suffered from breathing difficulties as a result of her co-workers’ fragrances.

Halifax, Nova Scotia
Halifax in North America has taken it several steps further than Detroit and has banned the wearing of any fragrance in most indoor public places, including; libraries, schools, courtrooms, hospitals and buses. Described as the Halifax Hysteria, even strongly scented mouthwash is banned from one workplace. The ban was encouraged by environmentalists and sufferers of a condition called Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, in which even the slightest hint of fragrance can cause migraines, vomiting and seizures. Although many scientists and medical professionals have not recognized MCS as a genuine illness, they do admit that some people suffer severely from exposure to fragrances.

Fort Wayne, Indiana
A woman in Indiana is currently pursuing a lawsuit in an attempt to have a perfume ban enforced at her sons High School because she claims fragrances trigger severe allergic reactions. Janice Zandi is suing the school because they refused to ban sprayed scents.

Victoria Beckham banned from spraying her new Scent
Now for a bit of Celebrity trivia: Victoria Beckham’s new fragrance is so bad, she has been banned from spraying it in public! OK, not really, but when she was invited onto a chat show hosted by Whoopi Goldberg, she was asked not to spray the perfume due to Goldberg’s allergies. Additionally, the audience on the show had to sign contracts stating that they would not open the perfume in the studio, and Victoria had to agree not to spray the scent within a 9 metre radius of Goldberg.
I wonder if the perfume was called Diva Fever....

Perfume is banned in various places all over the world. Allergies, environmental reasons and religious beliefs (Islamic women are not permitted to wear perfume in public) are the main reasons why. Luckily for those living in areas were perfume is banned, Crystal Spring’s Salt of the Earth deodorant is completely unscented, whilst still being extremely effective and providing with 24 hour protection.
