No one likes to be smelly themselves and being close to people with body odour can be a little uncomfortable, but banning bad body odour, surely no one would do it....well guess again! Here we have collated a number of articles about Councils, buses, libraries and theme parks who have all thought about or actually implemented a ban on bad body odour.
Body odour ban for Zurich workers
The Swiss city of Zurich has banned overbearing body odour for municipal workers. As part of a new “do’s and don’ts” list for the city workers bad body odour is targeted along with bad breath, strong perfumes and plunging necklines. Officials did confirm though that they would not send out bad body odour inspectors. Surprisingly, Zurich is not the only Council to enforce such a ban, Murpheesboro council in America has a similar ban in place. A council spokesperson clarified what was considered illegal, "If it's an odor that is offensive to those around them, and if there are complaints, then that is the test." We can’t help think that an easier option would just be to issue our Salt of the Earth deodorant to the affected staff.

Body odour ban for park visitors
Thorpe Park in the UK has banned people with bad body odour from putting their hands up on scary rides. After receiving many complaints from customers about bad body odour on scary rides the park felt it had to act by putting notices up on rides, issuing customers with deodorant sprays and asking customers to keep their hands down during hot weather. In extreme cases of body odour, offending customers could be asked to sit at the back of the ride. The park denied the ban was a publicity stunt

Shhh! No talking or stinking in the library!
A man was banned for 6 months from a Leicestershire library because of complaints about his bad body odour. The Library said they had sat him down and talked to him about his washing habits and whether he used a deodorant, but when things didn’t improve after a year they felt they had to act. Other guests to the library had reportedly walked out because the man’s pungent body odour was so bad. In Houston Texas, "offensive bodily hygiene" was banned from libraries back in 2005, with librarians given the power to remove offending patrons.

Bad body odour could lead to a bus ride to Prison
In 2009 Honolulu City Council members considered a motion to clean up bad behaviour on their buses. Part of the proposal also dealt with bad body odour and would mean police would be able to cite people on buses with bad body odour. The punishment...$500 or 6 months in prison. One bus passenger when asked about the motion commented "I think it is a bit discriminatory to people but being a bus rider myself I think it would be helpful because some people do have really bad body odor". Dubbed the ‘Smelly bus ban’ it has gained support from bus drivers. One veteran bus driver commented on passengers with bad B.O. "It's horrible -- sometimes you have to get up and open up the vents, and it's just obnoxious". After the motion was dropped the author and co-sponsor commented "One person's smell is another person's perfume, I guess".
