We love nature and all things natural; but you knew that already. This article is dedicated to a very small selection of nature’s hero’s and is going to take a look at some of the treasures that are often used in natural cosmetics.

Radish Root

Radish Root extract is derived from the Korean root vegetable Kimchii. It has a very useful part to play in beauty and personal hygiene products because it is an anti-bacterial agent.

Radish Root was discovered when researchers noticed there were fewer cases of Avian Flu along the Korean Peninsula. They theorized that Kimchii, being widely eaten in Korea may have offered resistance to the virus.

Radish root is particularly useful as an active ingredient in deodorants thanks to its antibacterial properties. It can effectively prevent the growth of odour causing bacteria in conjunction with other ingredients when applied to the armpits.

Radish root extract can be used as a natural ingredient in a variety of cosmetics and personal hygiene products including; lotions, creams and natural deodorants.

A lot of people have probably heard of this one since it’s a popular flower and well-used natural ingredient in many cosmetics. Honeysuckle too, like Radish Root has an anti-bacterial effect and is used primarily for this reason.

We use two different types of Honeysuckle in our Natural Spray deodorants; Lonicera Caprifolium and Lonicera Japonica to combine with the Alum and effectively prevent odour-causing bacteria.

Honeysuckle works and is used in much the same way as Radish Root and is can be found as an ingredient in many different products.

Honeysuckle has been used in traditional Chinese medicine and is still used today to treat many ailments.

Honeysuckle has even appeared in well-known love story Tristan and Isolde; in some versions it states that two trees (hazel and honeysuckle) grew out of the lovers’ graves and intertwined their branches so that they could not be parted by any means. It was said that King Mark tried to have the branches cut 3 separate times, and each time, the branches grew back and intertwined, so he gave up and let them grow.

Vitamin E

This vitamin in particular is often included in cosmetics because of its many skin-boosting benefits.

It is so beneficial that it has become an essential part of healthy skin care. Some of the benefits of this wonderful natural ingredient include:

Antioxidant properties – vitamin e protects the skin from ultra violet light, pollution and other cell damaging free-radicals.

Anti-aging benefits – It helps skin look younger by reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Sun protection and Sun burn treatment – vitamin e protects the skin from early stages of UV damage and when included as an ingredient, it can improve the efficacy of sun lotions. It also soothes and moisturises after being in the sun.

Treatments of blemishes – vitamin e can help reduce the appearance of blemishes such as age spots and stretch marks.

For skin care topical application of vitamin e in creams or lotions is much more beneficial than taking orally. However there are many health benefits to be gleaned from taking vitamin e supplements. Check with your medical practitioner before taking any supplements.
