Crystal Spring was started in 1992. It was founded to sell just one product, the Crystal Spring 90g deodorant (now know as Salt of the Earth Classic deodorant). The product’s continued popularity attracted the interest of both the high street retailer Holland & Barrett and the wholesaler Bioforce (UK) Ltd, both of whom started successfully selling it.
In 2005 the company was brought by Sally Laird a reflexologist and natural therapist with an entrepreneurial streak and a passion for natural health products. Having used crystal deodorants herself for many years previously it seemed the perfect match.
With a keen eye for good natural products Sally was quick to launch a Travel and Spray version of the Crystal Spring Deodorant.
After finding out about a wonder product from Japan Sally took a risk and brought out Detoxing Footpads under the Crystal Spring brand. After large amounts of positive press coverage the Detoxing Footpads become almost instantly popular and have remained so ever since helping thousands of people all round the country.
In 2006 Sally’s son Thomas joined the company fresh from completing a university degree in business management. Originally drafted in to help with the development of the previous Crystal Spring website he stayed working with Crystal Spring after seeing the potential of the business.
Thomas was keen to see Crystal Spring update its image to make the products more appealing to customers, and after some persuading Sally soon began to see the benefits. They found help with the UK Design council who helped them find distinguished local designers 3 Men and a Suit.
In March 2007 Sally found a company for sale that had been manufacturing and selling organic massage oils for over 19 years. After trying it out on herself and her friends on a skiing holiday with wonderful results, Sally quickly brought the company. The product has been renamed J-rub and is now helping hundreds of people with their everyday aches and pains.
After months of hard work the new look Crystal Spring products are on sale and Thomas is now the Managing Director of Crystal Spring, with Sally taking a back seat to concentrate on her passion for creating and finding new products for the company.
